July 2014

July was an awesome family month.  We had all three of our children with us and drove down from Alaska to California to spend time with the Swanson family.  Then we drove to Idaho where Claire had appointments at several universities.  Afterwards we drove to Salmon to the old camping grounds and spent 10 days with family loving the outdoors.

Swanson family picture on the deck at Grandpa and Grandma Swansons.
We stayed several nights at Paula Haundschild's house and got to visit with are dear friends:  Paula and Liz.
Karl trying to keep warm in HOT Idaho.  Very different from Fairbanks, Alaska.
A big group of us climbed to No Name Lake and Claire and Signe hiked up to the top and played in the late snow.
All the girls decided to swim in the snow melt lake.  We didn't last long but it was a lot of fun.  We were happy to have a nice fire going to warm up by.  Karl and John competed in the log rolling contest.

About an hour north of Seattle our truck died!  We spent the weekend in the compound in our camper and walked all over Burlington.

Swimming in the Eel river is always a treat.
We packed into the truck and drove to Idaho like in the old days.  We even all slept 2 nights in the camper (well, and the the cab.)
Claire took a tour of Boise state and stood next to the blue football field.
Visiting Paula and Liz was such a treat!
 Karl out looking for snakes!

Claire, Karl and Lenore drove back to Alaska by themselves and enjoyed a soak in the Liard Hot Springs in Canada.

We are back in Alaska now!!

Pete and Lenore drove down to Sacramento to pick up Kirsten who had to work longer and flew down to California to meet up with us.  We spent the evening with our dear friends Greg and Sherry Lewis and Jim and Lisa Siemens.  Kelsey hung out with us too.

Britt and Lenore drove flame down Cathy road to watch for Karl arriving in his new truck.  Karl bought Grandpa Stonoff's old pickup from him.  A very familiar sight driving up the road.  It is the truck I grew up with and spent many many days camping.

While in N. California, Britt and Pat came over and we all had a picnic at one of the Giant Redwood Parks.  Karl stayed behind working on a summer school class.

On the way to camp with family out of Salmon, ID, we stopped near Boise so Karl could try out skydiving.  He LOVED it and might be hooked!

We stopped by some hotsprings on a back road across Idaho.

We brought Lenore's ride:  Flame, Pete's ride: Brutus and Karl's brand new motorcycle.
Hiking with Shelley, Signe, Lenore and Kirsten.

J.R. and Sarah and the girls went riding with us...up a VERY steep hill.

Karl, Jackson and Logan enjoying the outdoors.

 Zoe helped Claire wash dishes.

We took dad (Grandpa Stonoff) up to an abandoned old mining town.
Lack of rides required lots of doubling up to go hiking.  Megan, Melanie and Molly jump on with Kate and Pete for the hike.
Great year whitewater rafting again with Nick and Abe our guides and the whole Reeves gang, all the Swansons, John and Nate Cromer, and most of the Miller family.

At the top of the world!  After we sent the others back at the abandoned old mining town, a few of us went on to the top of the mountain.  What an amazing view!

The girls found a nice level place to camp!

We had a great group and a lot of fun hanging out with family.
